Glenda Wimberley

October 5, 1943 — July 31, 2025

Glenda Matthews Wimberley, lovingly known by all as "Meme," peacefully passed away at her home in Buies Creek, North Carolina, on July 31, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. At the age of 81, she completed her earthly journey and stepped into her heavenly home, where she was joyfully welcomed by her mama and daddy, Ralph and Claudia Matthews, her brother Pete Matthews, and two sweet little babies she never had the chance to meet in this life.

Born on October 5, 1943, Glenda lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and an immeasurable love for her family. She was a tender-hearted, compassionate woman whose gentle spirit was a source of comfort to everyone who knew her. For 64 beautiful years, she was the faithful wife of her beloved husband, Bud, to whom she devoted her life-always making sure he was well cared for and never without a home-cooked meal.

Glenda was a follower of Jesus Christ and held an eager anticipation to see her Savior, even though her love for her family made it hard to say goodbye. In her final moments, her family gathered close, praying and singing her into heaven. She left this world as she lived-surrounded by love.

Meme was the quiet anchor at every family function, always found gently rocking a baby or offering a warm smile. She adored her family beyond measure and took great pride in each one of them.

She is survived by her husband Bud Wimberley; her daughter, Lisa Cotten, and son-in-law, Mike Cotten; and her four grandchildren and their spouses: Matthew Cotten and wife Sima, Claudia Calo and husband Elisha, and John Cotten and wife Michaela, Sarah Weimer and husband Nick. Meme was blessed with a quiver full of great-grandchildren: Michael, Isaac, Barrett, Annabelle, Kenzie, Sophia, Caroline, Josiah, and Leander. She also leaves behind her cherished older sister, Nell Smith.

Though she was a wonderful cook and a meticulous housekeeper, her favorite pastime was cutting grass-a task she found both peaceful and fulfilling. She also loved the beach, where the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun brought her great joy. For many years, she and Bud ran Ralph's Barbecue in Angier, where she made countless friends and served her community with grace and care.

In the last six months of her life, Glenda bravely battled COPD and lung cancer. But because of the precious blood shed by Jesus Christ on Calvary, we rejoice in knowing she is now healed, whole, and forever in His presence.

"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
- 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV)

This is not goodbye, but we'll see you later.
We love you so, so much.
