Gilliam Gregory Callahan

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Gilliam Gregory Callahan, 68, of Goldsboro, NC. He went to his eternal home on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Greg was a proud son of eastern North Carolina. Born on December 27, 1957, in Raleigh, North Carolina, he was the middle son of John and Joe Ann Callahan. He built a life rooted in faith, friendship, family, and community. Known for his jovial spirit and bountiful laugh, Greg never met a stranger. Whether sharing a story or historical fact, he had a way of making people feel at home. In fact, he brought the magic of Santa to life during the Christmas season to many local communities and loved each and every moment.

A lifelong student of history, Greg was an avid history buff with a particular passion for the American Civil War. He could spend hours discussing battles, generals, and lessons from the past, bringing history to life with enthusiasm and remarkable knowledge.

Greg was also deeply committed to the service of the Freemasons, serving with honor and distinction as Grand Master in the Wayne #112 Masonic Lodge and most recently, he served as the Chaplain. He exemplified the values of brotherhood, integrity, and service, leaving a lasting legacy within his fellow Masons.

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Syvonne Callahan of Goldsboro, NC. He leaves behind three children; Elaine Tinder (Robbie) of Pinetops, NC; Kristen Satterfield (Scott) of Goldsboro, NC; and Brandon Carroll (Katie) of Angier, NC. He was blessed with ten grandchildren; Kayleigh Edwards, Elijah, Finley, and Magnolia Satterfield; Anna Jean and Leah Carroll; Chris, Jillian, and Addison Tinder; and one great-grandchild, Colton Lee. He is also survived by his older brother, Wes Callahan (Becky) of Cleveland, TN, and many nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joe Ann Callahan, and younger brother, Andy Callahan.

Above all, Greg's faith in the Lord remained unwavering through years of illness and health challenges. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, joyful presence, and genuine love for this family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, Greg's spirit will live on in the hearts of all those he touched. May we honor his memory by living with the same faith, curiosity, humor, generosity, and love that defined his life.

A celebration of life will be held at Freedom Baptist Church, 300 Country Day Rd, Goldsboro, NC on July 3, 2026. The family will receive visitors at 12:00pm. The service will begin at 1:00pm, followed by a graveside service with Masonic rites at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton, NC at 4:00pm. Greg had a heart for children and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Freedom Baptist Church Youth and Mission funds.
