It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Gayle Cooke Kanon of Angier, North Carolina, who passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her family.
As we bid farewell to this luminous soul, let her loved ones carry forward the torch of her memory, illuminating the path ahead with the warmth of her love and spirit. Though Gayle may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, her essence and influence remain.
Gayle studied music at Campbell University and had a love of roller skating. The community will remember Gayle for her skill as a talented musician, director, instrumentalist, and teacher. She was a bright and dedicated woman with a passion for music and family.
Gayle was born on December 8, 1943, in Wake County, NC, to Myrtle M. Cooke and John Q. Cooke. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James R Kanon; daughters, Sandee Zechman and Winona Peed; Grandson, Raymond Zechman; Granddaughters Dariene Watkins (Josh), Holly Zechman; great-granddaughter Olivia; Brother, Luther Cooke (Jackie); Sister, Patricia Duncan and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ronald Peed; great-granddaughter Jadyn Simpson; and her brother, Alfred Q. Cooke.
The Family will hold a private memorial service and asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to:
