Elwin Lee "Mac" Mackintosh, 88, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Bella Rose Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on January 22, 1937, in Takoma Park, Maryland, Mac was the son of James Thomas Mackintosh and Evelyn Rosalie Mackintosh of Washington, D.C.
Mac is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Elizabeth "Betty" Mackintosh; his three beloved children, Kristen, Todd (Susan), and Bonnie; and two cherished grandchildren, Emily and Brian. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Ann Watson, and nieces, Dana and Karen.
Mac graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C., and went on to earn his degree in Business Administration with a minor in Education from High Point College in 1960, where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He later earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Appalachian State University in 1980.
Mac's career began at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company before transitioning into banking. He eventually found his professional calling as a Medical Group Manager, a role he embraced for 24 years. His work took him to Ohio and Maryland before retiring in 2002.
Over the course of their life together, Mac and Betty made their home in Clemmons, North Carolina; Lorain and Poland, Ohio; and Easton, Maryland. After retirement, they returned to North Carolina to be closer to family.
Mac believed deeply in community service and gave generously of his time and talents. He was active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Jaycees, Kiwanis, the Chamber of Commerce, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Medical Group Management Association, the American College of Medical Practice Executives (CMPE), Maryland MGMA, and the Bones Society.
Mac was also a devoted member of the United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully throughout his life in various roles of leadership and service.
A lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts, Mac dedicated more than fifty years to the organization as both a Scout and a leader, proudly achieving the rank of Eagle Scout during high school.
Mac had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making friends wherever he went. He treasured time with his family and especially loved traveling to create meaningful, lasting memories. His warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Aversboro Road Baptist Church in Garner, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, the American Heart Association, or Aversboro Road Baptist Church - Connecting Generations Building Fund, in honor of Mac's lifelong dedication to compassion and service.
