Ellen Jacqueline Wallen Wall, 93, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on September 22, 2025, days after experiencing a massive stroke. Her transition to heaven was peaceful, and her husband, R.B. as probably one of the first to greet her. She was a loving wife, devoted mom, daughter, sister, "MaMa," and "GiGi."
Jackie was born August 8, 1932, in Asheville, North Carolina, the daughter of William Jean Wallen and Willie Jack Carter Wallen.
At age 6, she moved with her family to Raleigh, and at age 9 began attending the First Alliance Church with her mom on East Lane Street. She has remained in the church (though it has changed locations several times), and was still a very involved member at the time of her death.
Jackie married Robert Bert Wall (R.B.) on August 9, 1952 at the C&MA church of Raleigh. They were married for 62 years when God called R.B. to heaven in 2015. Their love story is one for the books. They had two daughters, Priscilla (who married Doug Welbourn) and Pamela (who married Chris Hansen). They adored their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Luke, Landis, Ryan, Kyle, Courtney and Chad (their six grandchildren), and Sydney, Riggins, Jack, Gunnar, and Margot (their five great grandchildren).
She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the North Carolina Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Division of Water and Air Resources. She worked and achieved recognition for her 31 years of dedicated service to the state of North Carolina.
Jackie loved many things. She loved singing in the choir, singing solos and in mixed groups in the church. She enjoyed hospitality, often hosting many in her home. She loved any challenge, and if she was told it couldn't be done, she was determined to do it. She loved playing anything, but most recently "Hand and Foot" and "Five Crowns." She could cook and sew and her BBQ sauce was unprecedented. She loved to travel and wanted to see everything everywhere. She loved to dance.
One of the accomplishments she held most dear was service to her church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, from the time she was very young. She was the Youth Director for many years but also worked tirelessly with the youth of the church as a Youth Leader. She knew how to teach and also how to have fun. Many have testified to her having an impact in their lives as she "loved them to Jesus."
Jackie served passionately as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She served on the Executive Board of the Christian Women's Club, the PTA of the local schools, the Alliance Women as Secretary, and most recently, Salt Shakers Bible Study. She taught Sunday School many, many years, from the Primary Department all the way up to the older saints she adored. Throughout their lives, Jackie, with R.B., supported, served, and hosted missionaries from all over the world. They also excitedly went on several missions trips. She loved studying and serving.
The Bible was immensely important to her. She wanted to deeply study to have God's Word in her heart, but also to be able to share it with others. Even when she could not see to read, she still made it her job to drench herself in the truth.
Remaining to cherish Jackie's memory are daughters, Priscilla (Douglas), Pamela (Chris). Grandchildren, Luke (Stephanie), Landis (Matt), Ryan, Kyle (Ali), Courtney, Chad (Kelsey). Great grandchildren, Sydney, Riggins, Jack, Gunnar, Margot. Sisters, Patsy (Larry), Lillian (Kenneth), Linda (Glen, deceased), and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 29, from 6-8:00 PM at Bryan Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh. The Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 30, at First Alliance Church of Raleigh on Buffalo Road. Interment will follow the funeral at Montlawn Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
