Elizabeth Eleanor Hunichen

Elizabeth Pfister Hunichen, age 93, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Born in Germany, Elizabeth immigrated to the United States with the help of her sister, for whom she remained deeply grateful throughout her life. She later married and settled in Hagerstown, Maryland. In 1958, she moved to Garner, North Carolina, where she owned and operated Hunichen Stamp and Coins and Pfister House of Hobbies on Martin Street in Raleigh while raising five children.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Maja Whittington and Hörst Pfister; her husband, Kenneth Hunichen; her daughter, Venus Burnett; her son, Kenneth Hunichen, Jr.; and many cherished friends.

Affectionately known as "Oma" by family and friends, Elizabeth retired from Memorex Telex as Manager of Quality Control. She found great joy in her beautiful flowers, hosting kaffeeklatsches, traveling, and playing Mensch ärgere dich nicht with her family. Her warmth, strength, and love of family will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Velazquez of Atlanta, Georgia, and Melody Faeizi of Benson, North Carolina; and her son, Howard Hunichen of Kinston, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tiffany Noel Schenck and husband Joey, and their children, Ellie and Courtland; Kathryn Page and husband Adam, and their daughter, Miranda; Chris Hunichen and wife Heilyn, and their children, Derek and Byson; Kelly Hunichen and her son, Tyler; Matt Hunichen; and Ali Faeizi.

The family extends a special thank you to family friend Michael Guy and Elizabeth's Cloverdale neighbors, who loved and cared for her as one of their own.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones and cherish the precious moments you share together.
