Elise “Alice” Altice Ward, 87, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Born April 12, 1938, in Princewick, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Roxie Cole Altice. One of eleven children, Alice was the last surviving sibling, cherishing the memories and bonds she shared with her large family.
Alice was married to James Ward for 42 years, and together they raised four children. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Alice poured her heart into caring for her family and keeping a beautiful home — even her carport was spotless. Her home was a reflection of her pride, love, and attention to detail.
She found joy in visiting her siblings in West Virginia and generously supporting them whenever she could. She loved spending winters in Florida, where she could relax and bask in the warmth and sunshine. Her faith was deeply important to her, and she always became emotional when speaking about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross — a testament to the strength of her belief.
Alice found peace in nature, especially in watching deer and birds, and took delight in all of God’s creatures. She held a special love for Sun Mountain in West Virginia, speaking of it often and fondly throughout her life.
More than anything, Alice was proud of her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Vuturo and her husband Frank; son, Lee Ward, Clayton Ward and his wife Sherry; and grandchildren, Gina, John, Corrine, April, Holly and Michael.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ward; and son, James (Jimmy) Ward. Sisters, Bula Mae Wilson, Clara Belle Ward, Virginia “Jenny” Peterson, Martha Elizabeth “Lizzie” Blevins and Etta Fay Ayers; and brothers, Ray Altice, Arthur Altice, Everett Altice, Jim Altice, and Freddie O. Altice.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603. The family will receive friends an hour prior, at 1:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd., Garner, NC 27529.
