Edwin Salter

Edwin "Ed" Roger Salter, Sr., a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Ed was born March 11, 1947, to the late Edwin and Rena Louise Daniels Salter. Born and raised in Carteret County, North Carolina, Ed graduated from Atlantic High School in 1965. He continued his education and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree and remained a lifelong and passionate Tar Heel fan-especially when it came to UNC basketball. His love for Carolina blue was well known among family and friends, and cheering on his team brought him immense joy over the years.

Ed built a successful career as a salesman, known for his tenacity and ability to connect with people. For the last 20 years of his career, he poured that same passion into entrepreneurship, running his own business with the same energy and integrity that defined his life.

Ed found his greatest happiness in his role as a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and cherished time spent with them-whether going on long walks, taking boat rides in Maryland, or shooting hoops in the driveway. He had a natural gift for making everyday moments feel special.

He grew up on the water and carried that love with him throughout his life. Whether swimming with turtles in the Caribbean or simply relaxing on the boat, near the water was always his happy place. Ed took great pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn, and he could often be found with a thriller novel in hand, enjoying a good story and a quiet moment.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Craven Salter; daughter, Maria Salter and husband, Manny Elbaltimy; son, Edwin "Ed" Salter, Jr. and wife, Ann Grant; sister, Rena Bogle (Dr. Clyde Bogle); grandchildren, Nigel Salter, Alexandra Elbaltimy and Adam Elbaltimy; and many beloved cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.
