DURHAM - Edward Jean Andre was called home to heaven on June 26, 2026, at the age of 69 years old.
Born January 31, 1957, originally in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, he and his two older brothers arrived in Brooklyn, New York in June 1966 to join their mother. This was the beginning of a new chapter that would shape the rest of his life.
Throughout his adolescence, Edward - known to many as Eddie - excelled in auto mechanics, a skill that became both a profession and a lifelong passion. He was very proud to have participated in a New York marathon while living there. He later moved and lived for several years in Georgetown, Texas before settling in Durham, North Carolina, where he built a life rooted in hard work, humor, and generosity. Eddie professed his life to Christ and loved sharing his faith with others.
In his later years, Eddie founded Eddie's Friendly Handyman Service, embodying the phrase "Jack of all Trades." Whether fixing something no one else could fix, offering advice at exactly the right moment, or cracking a joke that instantly eased tension, Eddie had a way of making life feel steadier for everyone around him.
He loved fishing above all other pastimes, as well as taking road trips with family and friends - passions that he shared freely and joyfully. His greatest pride was his children, whom he taught resilience, honesty, and the importance of showing up for others through action rather than words.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Marcel Andre, and his older brother, Michael Andre. He leaves behind his mother, Nicole Valville; his two brothers, Frantz Andre and Robert LaFontant; his sisters, Marie Andre, Darlene Salomon, Delcarme Marvo, Nicole Long; his daughter, Simona Andre; his sons, Marcel Andre, Jr. and Joshua Andre; his two stepsons Jeremy James and Michael James and more than half a dozen grandchildren.
A viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, located at 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.
