Edith Faye Austin Glass, 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Born February 24, 1949 in Wake, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Wallace and Edith Vaughan Austin.
Affectionately known as "Nana," Faye found her greatest joy in her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Quiet, thoughtful, and fiercely private, she possessed a remarkable intelligence, a kind heart, and a radiant smile that, paired with her unforgettable "sunflower eyes," could light up any room. An avid reader with a love for current events, she spent many happy years on the North Carolina coast as a property manager for Century 21, where she embraced the ocean she loved, beachcombing for shark's teeth and creating treasured memories. She will also be fondly remembered for her homemade fudge, pies, and carrot cake, as well as for instilling the importance of good manners, proper grammar, and kindness. She lived by a simple motto that she quietly modeled every day: "Look your best, do your best, and be your best."
Faye is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Hearn (Reuben) of Little River, SC; sister, Lynn Ward-Moore of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Lindsey Dix (Daniel) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Patrick Wheeler of Angier, NC and Jordan Hearn of Fuquay-Varina, NC; great-granddaughter, Millie Dix; nephews, Wallace Austin (Sherry) of Raleigh, NC, Dallas Austin (Kim) of Lillington, NC, Thomas Ward (Helen) of Willow Spring, NC, and Spencer Moore of Fuquay-Varina, NC and many beloved family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her brother, Nelson Austin.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens,1621 Broad St, Fuquay-Varina, NC, United States, 27526.
