Jo Gillikin, 90, of New York City died on March 30, 2025.

Graveside service will be held at 1 pm on April 14, 2025, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC with the Rev. Lisa Fischbeck officiating.

Jo was born in Wilmington to Josephine Medford and Durham Gillikin in October 1934.

A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Jo was an English Professor and retired a Professor Emerita. She taught Literature, Poetry, and Women Studies and was advisor for the student publication All Ways a Woman. Her affiliations included the National Council of Teachers of English and National Women's Studies Association; she cofounded the Women's Studies department at The College of Staten Island and was an editor of the NWSA Journal. Jo was a valued Lay Reader for the Episcopalian congregations of Christ and St. Stephen in NYC and of St James in Arlington, VT.

Jo will lay to rest with her beloved of 64 years, Alma Graham. Jo and Alma were married in 2008; they had no children.

She is survived by her nephew Christopher Smith, her great nephew Ken Wagner, and her great niece Rosemary Lewis.
