Dorothy Medlin Tysinger, affectionately known as "Dot", met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face in all His Glory on the afternoon of November 11, 2025. She died peacefully in her sleep after a prolonged period of declining health. She was a woman of great faith, love, talent, and personality. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was born on June 1, 1934 in Bryson City, NC to Baptist minister Judd Medlin and his faithful wife Trula. She was the middle of 7 sisters. She was proceeded in death by sisters Mildred, Irma, and Agnes and brother Dewey. She is survived by younger sisters Jean, Kathryn, and Bobbie.
She was married to the love of her life Robert Tysinger for almost 68 years. He continued to be the love of her life after his passing in 2022. They gave birth to 3 children, son Dale Tysinger (Susan), daughter Dana Niestroy (Michael), and daughter Jennifer Hodge (Andrew). She is grandmother to Ashleigh Engesether and husband Matthew, Jordan Wattenburger and husband Matthew, Morgan King and husband Jason, Justin Hodge and wife Rachael, Jodie Hodge, Kyle Niestroy, Nick Niestroy and wife Kennedy. She has 11 great grandchildren: Andrew Rose, Matthew Rose, Meredith Rose, Bethany Rose, Isaac Engesther, Makenna Tysinger, Logan Wattenburger, Conner King, Hunter King, Elsie Hodge, and Scarlett Niestroy. Each held a special place in her heart.
She worked as a mother, homemaker, business owner, florist, and NC State employee. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served in the roles of committee member, choir member, group singer, instrumentalist, and Sunday School teacher. She loved her church, its membership, and every visitor that walked through the door. She considered it her ministry to ensure that all felt loved and welcome. Whatever she did, she did with passion for Jesus and others. She was loved for her love, her talent, her passion, and her comically good-natured pranks and showmanship. She lived life to the fullest and will be missed, but never forgotten. She now has earned her rest in Jesus' everlasting arms.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 18 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 10005 Lake Wheeler Rd. in Fuquay Varina with visitation at 2:00 and the service to follow at 3:00.
