Doris Jean "Dottie" Pope 98, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She was born September 3, 1927, in Harnett County to the late William Paul and Nellie Hudson Pope. Dottie's family owned and operated Popes Family Centers and True Value Hardware Stores in North Carolina and Virginia. She and her sister, Barbara Ann, managed the store in Sanford for 27 years and retired to Popes Lake in Angier to assist their parents. Dottie loved animals, and she was a
very active housekeeper and enjoyed cooking.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 10, from 12:00-12:45 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Angier. The funeral service will be at 1:00PM in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Dottie is survived by her sister-in-law, Sybil G. Pope of Little River, SC, and nieces and nephews: Ronnie, Mike, Dennis, and Darylene Jones, and Jennie Jones Cartrette; William Paul, III, Tommy, Donald and Anthony Pope,Starr Pope Marshall; Tom Gore and Lori Gore Fisher.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sisters Lynda Lou Pope Jones and Barbara Ann Pope, and brothers, the Rev. W. P. Pope Jr. and William R. Pope.
