Donald Allen Sollars, 86, of Raleigh, North Carolina, peacefully passed away in his home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 13, 1939, in Marion Indiana, Don was a beloved son of Donald and Juanita Sollars. Throughout his life, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support of those around him. After graduating from Marion High School in 1957 he served in the United State Marine Corps. Following his years in the service he built a remarkable career working in the FBI, SBI, and CBI, earning a reputation as someone who never wavered, never sugar-coated the truth, and never backed down from doing what was right.
Beyond the uniform and the badge, Don cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was funny in that dry, perfectly timed way that made you laugh whether you wanted to or not. He was stubborn in the most endearing sense. He had a heart full of love, always quick to lend a hand, offer a listening ear, or share a laugh.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jaunita Sollars, brothers Larry Sollars and Jay Sollars, and his wife, Shirley Sollars. He is survived by his brother Terry Sollars (Paula), his son, Don Sollars (Robbin), his grandchildren, David Sollars (Julie), Heather Morales (Carl), Hannah Potera (Hunter), Megan Benson (Jacob), Stacie Sollars, Stephen Sollars, over a dozen great-grandchildren and many dear friends who considered him family.
While Don may no longer be with us in body, the love and joy he shared with others will live on forever in our hearts. Don will be deeply missed, but we are comforted by the many beautiful memories and sarcastic flair he leaves behind in each of us.
