Denise Pamela Henderson

Denise Pamela Henderson, 69, went to her heavenly home on February 9th 2026 after a long and courageous battle. She was born in Erwin, NC on December 12, 1956 to the late Melba Eloise Smith and Roy Hedgepeth. She worked for the Department of Corrections for 27 years. She loved what she did and paved the way for women in criminal justice and the Department of Corrections. She was especially proud of her special teams S.O.R.T. and P.E.R.T. She was known throughout her career as LT, Lieu, and Lieutenant Henderson. She also spent many years working part time at the RBC Center and security at the NC State fair. She just loved people! After retiring from D.O.C as Security Specialist, she loved helping to raise her grandchildren. She took them everywhere with her!

She also spent a lot of time out in her yard enjoying her yard work. And she sure loved the beach! Sun and sand made her so happy! The most important thing to her was her family. Especially her daughters and her four grandchildren. She will be remembered for her beautiful contagious smile, a very giving and selfless mother, a hero and superwoman to her daughters, and a best friend to her sisters. She is preceded in death by Melba Eloise Smith (mother) and Roy J. Hedgepeth (father), Peggy Ann and Jimmy Hedgepeth (siblings).

She is survived by her daughters, Devin Sears of Angier and Wendy Henderson (Danielle) of Sanford. Her sisters, Jenny Myatt (Benny) and Rita Currin (Bobby). Her four grandchildren, Ty and Callia O’Neal, TJ and William Sears. Nephew, Jackson Currin (Hannah and their daughter Amelia)

Her visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver Street, Angier, NC.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
