David Winfield Robertson, professional engineer and a longtime resident of Greensboro and Raleigh, died on January 23, 2026. He was 73.
Born on September 27, 1952, he lived in North Wilkesboro and Greensboro, NC. He attended Western Guilford High School and attended NC State University, earning a degree in civil engineering and then earned a Master of Civil Engineering a year later. He was employed by the City of Greensboro as a traffic engineering intern and by the City of Raleigh as a traffic engineer. Later he was employed by the NC Department of Transportation as a Traffic Engineer.
Many of his achievements have been with the NC Soil and Water Conservation Society (Past president, Superior Service Award), Central Carolina Chapter, Professional Engineers of NC (Distinguished Service Award, 2004, Board member and program chairman 2001-2003), West Raleigh Rotary Club (Board of Directors member and Paul Harris Fellow), NC Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society (President, 2003), NC State University Alumni Association (Life Member), Raleigh Jaycees (Life Member), and the NC Jaycees (best Local Director in NC, 1992-1993, Goodfellows' Foundation Lifetime Round Table 1991), He has also been awarded the Outstanding Young Man of America Award (1984) and the State of NC Order of the Longleaf Pine.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Lewis Robertson of Raleigh; a sister, Ann Robertson Johns of Greensboro; one niece, Catherine Johns Longwill; and nephews, Abraham and Winfield Johns, and several cousins.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The service will be at 2:00 in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
