On January 30, after a life marked by faith, love, and devotion to family, Dan was welcomed into the arms of Jesus.
Dan Huddleston, born October 12, 1941, was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a family man in every sense of the word.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Maggie Huddleston of Raleigh; his brother, Ed Huddleston (Katherine); and his sister, Gwen Barwick (Braxton).
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy Huddleston, the love of his life and lifelong partner. Judy once prayed for a good man-and she got the very best husband. Dan never quite officially proposed, instead asking, "If I was to ask you..." Sixty-four years later, it was clear that everything worked out exactly as it should.
He is also survived by his sons: Danny Huddleston (Mandy), Scott Huddleston (Mary), and Todd Huddleston (Lori). He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Huddleston (Rebecca), Heidi Huddleston, Bryce Huddleston, Ashton Huddleston, and Conner Huddleston, each of whom he loved unconditionally. No matter what path his grandchildren chose in life, Dan made it clear his love for them would never waver.
Also surviving are his sister-in-law Shelia Carroll (Cooper), along with many nieces and nephews who knew him as a kind, steady presence.
Dan was known for his gray hair, his gentle demeanor, and always having a kind word. He loved his family deeply, loved God faithfully, and loved life fully. A man of resilience and faith, Dan faced numerous medical challenges over the years and fought the good fight each time. Many considered him a walking miracle, brought through by God's grace time and again.
He was lovingly cared for by Judy, who tended to him with devotion. Their relationship was a beautiful example of partnership, tenderness, and unwavering commitment. Every night before going to sleep, Dan made sure to tell Judy he loved her. On the day of his passing, he once again expressed his love and gratitude for her, thankful for the life they shared together.
Dan was a wealth of knowledge, always ready with a helpful tip or a bit of wisdom-whether about plumbing, woodworking, or life itself. He had a habit of turning off lights left on, even though he might turn one on and leave the room himself. He could explain exactly how to do something, even if he didn't plan to do it-but he always knew how. Just as importantly, he was a great listener.
As a father, Dan wanted only one thing for his sons: that they grow up to be good men. He lived that example every day. He also valued community and friendship and was part of a walking/breakfast group that grew into meaningful, lasting bonds.
Above all else, Dan made his love known-to his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was marked by faith, kindness, perseverance, and love, and his presence will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
