Cecil R. Rich, 90, of Willow Spring (formerly of Raleigh) passed away early Saturday morning following a period of declining health. He was surrounded by his family who will forever cherish his strength, love, devotion, and quiet wisdom.
Born in 1935, Cecil was reared in the Castalia region of Nash County and was so very proud of his "country" roots as he grew on his family's farm along with his four brothers and a sister. After graduation, Cecil enlisted with the United States Army in 1959 while honorably serving in Ft. Devin, Massachusetts. Moving back home in 1961, he married his sweetheart, Carolyn (Lamm), with whom he enjoyed the birth of their two children, Carol and Dale. He soon began a successful and tenured career as a computer programmer with the NC Flue Cured Tobacco Division with the State of North Carolina and retired in 1996.
Over the years, Cecil developed a strong passion for woodworking and so much enjoyed being in his shop designing and creating countless pieces of beautiful home furniture for both family and friends. This was a skill that was recognized by numerous people who were fortunate enough to have been a recipient of his talent.
Above all, Cecil was a meek and mild-mannered man who was constant and unmovable in his character and in his love for his entire family, and who would extend a helping hand to any. He and Carolyn were lifelong members of White Oak Church in Nashville, and he now enjoys the eternal reward of his love for Jesus Christ. We know that we will see him again one day soon!
Cecil was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Lamm) Rich, three brothers (Arthur Rich, John Rich, and Carl Rich), and a sister (Mary Sue Carmean Carson). Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carol McLeod (Anthony) of Willow Spring, his son, Dale Rich (Marylynn) of Morehead City, and his grandchildren Eric McLeod (Jenna) of Raleigh, Taylor McLeod (Allie) of Newport, and Hannah Orlowski (Elliot) of Clayton. Also, his great-grandchildren Hallie McLeod, Connor McLeod, Brooks McLeod, and Annie McLeod with whom he seemed to always smile, shine, and enjoy renewed strength. Also surviving is his brother Dwight Rich and wife, Linda, of Nashville, NC as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and close friends.
