Carol Ann Pregent

With hearts full of sorrow and faith in the Lord, the Pregent family shares that Carol Ann (Tavares) Pregent, 79, of Garner, NC, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, surrounded by generations of her loving family.

The second of four children, Carol was born on September 21, 1946, in New Bedford, MA, to Muriel Violette (Levesque) Tavares, a licensed practical nurse, and Joseph D. Tavares, a shoemaker who retired as the superintendent of the Hanover Shoe Company in Hanover, PA. While attending St. Joseph's High School in North Adams, MA, Carol met Dennis Gaston Pregent Jr., 79, and they were married on November 20, 1965. Later Carol attended Charles H. McCann Technical School and became a licensed practical nurse. Carol and Dennis raised six children and were active parishioners at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, OH, for decades.

A devout and lifelong Catholic, Carol was a published non-fiction author, enthusiastic photographer, and avid reader. She cherished her family and frequently hosted Sunday family gatherings and played games with her grandchildren. She enjoyed making puzzles together, flying kites on the beach, and watching birds, especially cardinals.

Carol will be deeply missed by her husband and her children: Sarah Rutherford and her husband, Stephen; Anna Mosher and her husband, Michael; Maria Trahan and her husband, Edwin; Dennis Pregent III and his wife, Lindsay (Stuyt); and Grace Pregent-Halford and her husband, Chris. She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Shirley (Tavares) Lord and Dennis Tavares, and her 18 grandchildren: Michaela, Jacob, Lisa, Cecelia, James, Lucia, Helaire, Maximilian, Veronique, Dennis IV, Penelope, Vivienne, Hudson, Titus, Leo, Alice, Felix, and Geneviéve. She was preceded in death by her oldest child, Lisa Denise Pregent; her older sister, Joyce (Tavares) Kemp; and her parents.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC. Afterwards Carol will be laid to rest at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

Floral arrangements may be sent to the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529.
