Carlie “Buddy” Matthews

FUQUAY-VARINA – Carlie “Buddy” Matthews, 66, passed away Saturday at home surrounded by his family. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Tiny Max Matthews and Geraldine Barbour Matthews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cathy S. Matthews of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Carla Thompson and husband, Brian of Fuquay-Varina; son, Jason Matthews and special friend, Ann Wilkins of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Katherine Deese and husband, W.T. of Angier, Jo Hawley and special friend Jimmy Holland of Coats; brother Ray Matthews and special friend, Leola Dykes of Angier; grandchildren Nate, Quincy, Quentin, Wesley, and Braedon; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs Jena and Zoe. In addition to his parents, Carlie was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Matthews.
