Betty Benton Green White passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 77 in Raleigh, NC. She was born on November 9, 1947, to Drew Wesley Benton and Jewell Willingham Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 9 step siblings.
Betty grew up in Camilla, Ga and she graduated from Mitchell County High School in 1966. She went on to study at Bauder Fashion School in Atlanta, Ga and graduated in 1967 with a degree in Interior and Fashion Design.
Later that same year, she married John H. "Johnny" Green, and together they had a daughter, Jennifer. Betty worked for the Mitchell County Board of Education for over 20 years in the High School's Vocational Education department. She loved working with the staff and the students and hoped that she was helping to shape the future in some small way.
In 1993, she married Jack White. After experiencing the Albany flood in 1994, Betty found a new calling. She joined the Small Business Administration (part of FEMA), traveling across the United States to help people apply for loans and recover after natural disasters-work she found deeply meaningful.
She later moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2015 to be closer to her daughter.
Betty had a creative spirit and a love for fashion, interior design, and home decorating. She enjoyed crochet, needlepoint, and reading-always with a book nearby. She also embraced new technology throughout her life and loved staying connected with friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Green Vineyard, and her son-in-law, Brian Douglas Vineyard, of Raleigh.
Memorial Services are being planned in Camilla, GA and Raleigh, NC and both will be held at a later date.
