Betty Wooten Dougherty

Betty Joyce Wooten Dougherty, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, and is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Born on May 30, 1944, in Stantonsburg, North Carolina, Betty was a woman who loved deeply and gave generously. She was a devoted wife to her husband, William "Bill" Dougherty, with whom she shared 51 amazing years of marriage. She loved her family and friends fiercely, and her love was an example to all who knew her.

Betty was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord. She spent time studying God's Word, praying, and learning. Her faith was evident in the way she lived and in the example she set for others. The Lord was her foundation, and He was her source of strength and comfort in every season.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Frances. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Colleen Raper and husband, Ronnie, Tom Dougherty and fiancée, Rakishia, and Jennifer Sloan and husband, Matt; her grandchildren, Wooten Dougherty, Rebecca Reaves and husband, Wade, Anna Gracen Rodriguez and husband, Daniel, Joshua Raper, Jacob Sloan, Christian Dougherty, Elijah Sloan, and Abel Sloan; and her great-grandchildren, William, Hudson, Archer, and Jackson Reaves. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Jackie and Lillian.

Betty took great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and delighted in loving on and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also treasured time with her sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She enjoyed the simple things that made a house feel like home, and she had a gift for making those around her feel seen, loved, and welcome. Above all, Betty loved people. She loved well, and those who knew her will carry the legacy of that love with them.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing hospice team and our precious caregivers, who cared for Betty with such kindness, compassion, and excellence. We will always be grateful for the way they helped our family and ensured that her final days were as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

Her loved ones are so thankful for the years they shared with Betty and for the love, care, and countless memories she leaves behind. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at home with her Lord, healed and whole.
