William "Pete" Matthews

FUQUAY-VARINA– William Richard “Pete” Matthews, 88, passed away on Monday at Cary Health and Rehab Center. Born in Harnett County, he was the son of the late William Ralph Matthews and Claudia Young Matthews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28th at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Fuquay-Varina. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Glennie Adams Matthews; sons, Rick Matthews (Sylvia) of Fuquay-Varina, and Gary Matthews (Kim) of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Runell Smith of Dunn, and Glenda Wimberly (Bud) of Lillington; grandchildren, Brett Matthews (Amanda) of Lillington, and Blake Matthews of Raleigh; great-grandchild, Blakely Matthews of Lillington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his grandson, Zack Matthews.
