Raleigh - Samuel Vance Sanderford, age 78, was welcomed into his Savior’s loving arms on Saturday January 21, 2017. He was born March 15, 1938 in Raleigh, NC to the late Louise Hardy and Samuel Sanderford. He spent his life in Garner, NC where he worked as a small family farmer and as an Inspector for the NC Department of Transportation. After retiring from the State, he worked part time at the Farmer’s Market in Raleigh, NC. Sammy was the most generous man you have ever met. When he found out someone was in need, he would do what he could to help them. He would give them the shirt off his back. Sammy also enjoyed spending the holidays making other people happy. He would dress in his “Santa” outfit and go to fire stations and day care centers to bring smiles to childrens’ faces. He lived his life with character, generosity, kindness, and compassion. And he instilled those values into his family. He believed in legacy and his life’s greatest meaning came from his family. He passed his deep love of sports, the great outdoors, and hunting onto his children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM - 5:45 PM at the funeral home. Sammy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Annie Lou Ford Sanderford. His daughter, Teresa Woods and sons, Mike and wife Tracey, Steve and wife Pam. His 10 grandchildren: Stephanie Woods, Jessica Murray and husband Jason, Kelly Bryan and husband Robert, Jill McCoy and husband James, Ryan Sanderford, Lesley Woods, Lauren Woods, Daniel Sanderford, Brandon Sanderford, and Matthew Sanderford.
