Ruth McCulloch Craven 78, died Wednesday at her residence. She was born in Alamance County and was a graduate of Appalachian State University. A former math teacher at Fuquay Varina High School, she also worked as a labor analyst with the Employment Security Commission. Ruth retired with NCSU as a statistical analyst in institutional research. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Carlyle C. Craven; son Andrew M. Craven and wife Alaina of Raleigh; grandchildren, James and Lexi Craven of Raleigh; sister, Becky Berrier and husband Cliff of Greensboro; nieces, Mary Ruth Harris of Greensboro, Selena Childs of Chapel Hill; nephew, Ben King of Richmond, VA. Funeral services will be held 11:30 am Saturday at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 54 years. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4900 Kaplan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.
