BENSON – Richard Wayne Embrey, Sr., 90, better known as Dick, was born in Shamrock, Oklahoma on August 1, 1931. He went to be with the Lord while at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 8. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Pat, and his father, mother, and all 4 of his siblings. Dick is survived by daughter, Linda Embrey Neubauer (Allan), son, Richard Wayne Embrey, Jr. (Cathy), daughter, Cathleen Embrey Weathers, and daughter, Lori Embrey Barefoot (Kevin). He is survived by nine grandchildren, Brooke Smith, Jennifer Lovelace, Mark Neubauer, Melissa Jordan, Wayne Embrey, Jacob Weathers, Ryan Weathers, Nathan Weathers, and Tyler Barefoot. In addition, twelve great grandchildren, Embrey and Hadley Lovelace, Mia and Jude Neubauer, Everly, Arlo, and Leona Jordan, Ari Embrey, Sadie Smith, Ellery, Maverick, and Jameslee (on the way) Barefoot. Dick was an Oklahoma boy who spent 21 years in the US Army. He was in the Airborne, was an Army Ranger, and Special Forces/Green Beret Master Sergeant. His military travels included stays in several stateside locations. His foreign stationings included Germany, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Panama. One of the highlights of his life was participating in the movie, “The Green Berets” in 1968, starring John Wayne, who was his lifetime hero. Dick enjoyed a second career as an insurance adjuster, and then started a third career as a painting contractor which he did into his 70s. Dick loved his family intensely and never met a stranger. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Our lives have been so blessed to have been a part of Dick Embrey’s life. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 14, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 14664 NC-210, Angier, NC 27501. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
