Raleigh - Nelleen C. Mims died peacefully on Thursday with her daughter and her doctor at her side. She was born in Hendersonville, NC to Harold W. and Pearl Mitchell Cox. She grew up in Charlotte, NC, and worked for Southern Bell (now AT&T), where she worked her way up from operator to one of the first female traffic managers. She retired in 1978 and moved to Wrightsville Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, William Watson Mims, Jr., whereupon she moved to Raleigh in 1989. She made wonderful friends, especially in Raleigh, at First Presbyterian Church and in her neighborhood. People will remember her for her pig pickin cakes, her spunky approach to life, her sense of humor, and her tenacious belief that she should be able to do what she wanted. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mims Kimrey McAllister and her husband Gray; granddaughter, Erin Kimrey and her partner Jennifer Snider; and a great-grandson, Mateo Snider-Kimrey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 3:00 PM in the chapel at Springmoor Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh. Private burial will be in the future. The family wishes to thank all of the staff and caregivers at Springmoor. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite charity. Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
