Mary Norman Racek

Mary Norman Racek, 89, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Rex Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Reidsville, NC, she was the daughter of the late George and Alva Norman. She retired after a 30 year career as office manager for the Nissan Motor Corporation in Raleigh. She was involved in a number of service organizations in Garner, but was most proud of the work she did while serving as a volunteer for the Garner Area Ministries. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Garner where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, a member of the Choir, and a loyal member of the Ida Circle. In 1981, she received the distinguished Presbyterian Woman of the Year Award. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June 27th at the First Presbyterian Church of Garner. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill Racek and Donna Dowless of Orlando, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Philip Penny of Garner; daughter, Sandra Royall of Boulder Creek, CA; four grandchildren, Kimberly Chandler, Brent Racek, Amanda Penny and Brittni Racek; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jayden, Kelsie and Emma. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Racek; a brother, Lynn Keith Norman and a sister, Georgia Ballard. The family would like to recognize their mom’s very special caregivers, Rebecca, Kimberly and Sheena, for all the love and compassionate care and devotion they gave mom during her declining health.
