Mary Bullock Smith

d. March 20, 2011

NOV. 5, 1918 - MAR. 20, 2011 FUQUAY-VARINA - Mary Bullock Smith was called home by her Lord on March 20, 2011, while in Hospice Care. She was 92 years old. Mary Smith is survived by her husband of 74 years, Raeford Smith, Sr. and children, Marie Smith Bass and husband, Stanley of Angier; Jane Smith Woodcock and husband Layton of Greensboro; Raeford (Ray) Smith, Jr. and wife Peggy Dupree Smith of Angier; Donna Smith Eatmon of Raleigh; Larry Smith of Florida; and son-in-law John Goodwin and wife Wyonne of Raleigh; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Bass of Fuquay-Varina. Those who predeceased Mary are her daughter, Linda Goodwin and four brothers and two sisters. There are several attributes of Mary Smith that all who knew and loved her will always remember. She faithfully read her Bible and enjoyed attending church. Her memory, until the last two years, was a storage facility for dates and family history. She could recall minute details of events and share them with her family. Her ability to cook is also renowned. She taught well those who asked her and always set a bountiful table. Until the last few years, she gardened, froze and canned most of the food on that table. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier, Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Burial will follow in the Stancil-Dupree Family Cemetery at 202 Stancil Road, Angier, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 PM on Tuesday, March 22, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, and at other times at the home at 5525 Hilltop Road and following the burial at the home of her son, Ray. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Bethel Church, 1972 Bethel Church Road, Spring Lake, NC 28390 or to E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center, 185 Pine State St. Lillington, NC 27546.
