GARNER- Marjorie Bass Barefoot, 71, of Garner died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.She was born in the Johnston County community of Bentonville and graduated from Four Oaks High School and East Carolina College. Marjorie taught Language Arts for thirty-five years in Wake County Public Schools and for two years in Franklin County Public Schools. She defined professionalism and excellence in teaching.She was active in the Elizabeth Rand Circle at Garner United Methodist Church, the Garner Educational Foundation, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Lawrence G. Barefoot; son, Bartley L. Barefoot; daughter-in-law, Vigdis Engebretsen, and beloved grandson, Lars, all of Cary; brother, Bobby Bass, and wife, Lois, of Four Oaks; and many nieces and nephews.Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Bartley and Merlene Bass; brother, Elwood Bass, and sister, Annette Bass Parker.The family thanks Dr. Alan D. Kritz, Dr. John F. Reilly, Jessica Casselberry, and the staff of the Raleigh office of Cancer Centers of North Carolina, the staff of Hospice of Wake County, and Marjories many friends for the care and support provided over the past three years.Her funeral service will be held at Garner United Methodist Church on Friday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Marjories memory to Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Dr., Garner, NC 27529, Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Cir., Raleigh, NC 27607 (www.hospiceofwake.org), or the North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership, 4000 Blue Ridge Rd., Suite 170, Raleigh, NC 27612 (www.nclungcancerpartnership.org).
