Lois Mae Strother

November 25, 1940 — August 25, 2022

“Dear old world”, she murmured, “you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you.” L.M. Montgomery Like the poet, Lois loved life and embraced it fully. She was joyful and brought laughter and love with her. However, Lois danced out of our lives on Thursday August 25, 2022 and we will miss her light. She was the sparkling Southern Belle who loved generously and unconditionally. She was born to the Reverend Leon Powell and Mary Lee Jones Powell on November 25, 1940 in Kinston, NC. Her family later moved to Raleigh where she attended Broughton High School. Lois met the love her life in Raleigh, Robert Lee Strother (Bob), and they were married on June 19, 1965. She raised her children in Cary and volunteered extensively in the community. She was generous with her time and talents. She was lost without her beloved Bob who died in 2019. However, her innate joy and faith carried her onward. Lois delighted in fashion and was always the epitome of style. Her laugh was distinctive and infectious. Her sense of humor was legendary. She adored socializing with family and friends and reveled in beach trips and holidays. Most of all, she loved the Lord and adored her family. She was a force of nature and a fierce advocate for them throughout her life. Lois was very proud of her children and grandchildren and was their greatest cheerleader. In turn, they delighted in her zest and enthusiasm. Lois is survived by her children Sherry Strother Howell, Styrling Strother (Allison), Janssen Strother (Amy), and Brandyn Strother. She leaves twelve adored grandchildren and two precious great grandchildren. Lois is further survived by three loving brothers, Dr. Freddie Powell (Irene), Jackie Powell (Sue Ann), Charles Powell (Leonor). In addition, she leaves cherished nephews, nieces and scores of friends. “And just at the moment when someone at my side says, ‘There! She is gone’, There are other eyes who are watching for her coming, And other voices ready to take up the glad shout, ‘There she comes.’” Luther F. Beecher We believe that Lois and Bob are reunited on that distant shore and are dancing amidst the stars once more.
