Levin Wayne Beasley

October 17, 1924 — January 24, 2015

GARNER- Levin Wayne Beasley, went home to his Lord after a period of declining health. Born October 17, 1924, to Thomas Owen Beasley and Lula Mae Wiggins Beasley in Harnett County, he joined the Army Air Corps after graduating from Coats High School, and served as a waist gunner and Togglier with the 8th Air Force  “Bloody 100th” in World War II. He flew 35 missions over Europe, including the Polish Airlift, and served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served his country for over twenty years. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he worked in the Chemistry Department at The University of North Carolina, managing the electronic services shop. He retired after twenty years, and opened a real estate appraisal business in Garner. Levin is a charter member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church in Garner, where he served as a deacon and director of church training, in addition to serving on several committees. He was active with the Garner Civitans, and headed the Claxton Fruit Cake sales, worked with Pop Warner football, and helped with the annual spring carnival. Funeral Service will be Tuesday 2 PM at Aversboro Road Baptist Church, Garner, N.C. Burial will follow at the Coats City Cemetery, Coats,  N.C. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM- 1:30 PM prior to the service. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Sandra French (husband, Alec) of Gibsonville and Beverly Purvis (husband, Steve) of Garner; grandchildren Matthew French (wife, Kylene) of Mebane, Emily Purvis of Garner, and Michael Purvis (wife, Cathy) of Wilmington; great-grandson Elliott French of Mebane; sisters-in-law Ann Beasley, Elizabeth Guy, Dovie Beasley, and Blanche Mitchell; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Betty Pleasant Beasley, and his brothers Thomas Godfrey Beasley, Charles Wyatt Beasley, and Max Hayes Beasley. The family would like to thank the staff of Waltonwood Independent Retirement Community in Cary for the love and support they showed Levin the past five years; Homewatch Homecare, especially Maggie, Sindy, and Cami; and Drs. Robert Starkenburg and Mohit Pasi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Aversboro Road Baptist Church, The Eighth Air Force Museum, Coats Museum, or Garner Civitans. “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
