Estelle Newton Guess Strickland

December 24, 1923 - March 17, 2011 RALEIGH - Estelle Newton Guess Strickland, 87, of Raleigh, died Thursday, March 17, 2011. A Native of Granville County, Estelle spent most of her life in Raleigh where she was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church for over 60 years. She spent 42 years with Raleigh Linen Service before working with N.C. State University for the last 5 years before retiring. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Ephesus Baptist Church 6767 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27606. Burial will follow at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving: her husband, Cecil Iry Strickland; daughter, Shirley Lowery; sons, Thomas R. Guess, Jr., John Glenn Guess, and Ronald Lynn Guess; sisters, Lois Tart, Virginia Cooke, and Jackie Gale; grandchildren, Mark Tallent, Alan Tallent, Alesia Bethune, Thomas Guess, III, and Jake Guess; five great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, Garland Lewis and Gladys Mae Parham Newton; first husband, Thomas R. Guess, Sr.; brother, Wayne Newton; and a grandson, Roger Guess. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
