Donald A. Matthews

Apex– Donald Anderson Matthews, 74, a loving husband, father, and grandpa went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21st, 2020. When he passed, his wife of 53 years was at his bedside. The Lord was the love of his life and his greatest desire was to live a life that was pleasing to God. Donald was a member of Savannah Hill PFWB Church in Dunn, NC, where he served as a prior deacon. He was employed by Stratcon Trucking. He had been driving a dump truck for over 30 years. He loved his country and served in the Army Reserves for 6 years. His hobbies were “working”, fishing and hunting. He loved helping others. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 26th at 2:00 PM at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, 2712 Oak Grove Church Rd. Angier, NC 27501. Donald will lie in state from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 26th for those who would like to pay their respects and sign the register. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicky Matthews; daughter, Crystal Bunch and husband, Nicholas; granddaughter, Skylar Elser; mother, Josie Matthews; sisters, Shelia Pierce, Susan Vaughan, Barbara Matthews, and brother, Dwight Matthews. He was preceded in death by his son, Daryle Matthews; his dad, Ersie Matthews; and his brother, David Matthews. Donald was an excellent leader, provider, and the love of Vicky’s life, who will truly be missed.
