RALEIGH - Lewis P Crow Wilson, 83, passed away Monday September 17, 2012 at his North Raleigh residence. He was born in Charlotte, N.C. on February 28, 1929 to James W. Wilson and Mattie Lee Lewis. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers James W. Wilson, Jr. and Harold Reid Wilson and son, JamesDanny Wilson. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife Sharon Hodge Wilson, daughter Pamela Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.and stepsons Chris Daniels of Washington, DC,AaronDanielsand Tim Daniels( wife Carla) of Raleigh.Crow graduated from Dunn High School and then attended Atlantic Christian College on a football scholarship. Upon graduation Crow served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and was stationed at Goodfellow AFB. After his time in the service, Crow moved into a reserved unit stationed at Ft.Bragg in Fayetteville, NC.Crow was a lifelong member and supporter of the N.C. Democratic Party, working as commissioner of N.C. Dept of Motor Vehicles under the honorable Gov. James B. Hunt. Crow spent the majority of his career in the insurance business, both as an owner and aNationwide agent with Snotherly Insurance Agency of Raleigh.He served on the Cumberland County Selective Service Board.Crow was a 32nd degree Mason and active member of James B. Green Lodge #735 and member of the AMRAN Shrine temple. Though he was active in various fundraisings, his focus was supporting the Shiners Hospital in Greenville, SC.Kicking back in a chair on the dock, Crow was an avid beach bum who spent many of his spare weekends at his home in Atlantic Beach NC. Through his love for good times and beach music, Crow was inducted into the Atlantic Beach and Fayetteville Shag Club Hall of Fame.On Monday, September 17,a great man passed who was gentle, brilliant, and a mentor for so many.Crow will be missed by his vast array of friends, co-workers, and others that were fortunate enough to know him over the years. He was a life long caretaker of people and will always be considered a true Southern Gentleman. Crow, you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Healing Place of Wake County, 1251 Goode St., Raleigh, NC 27603 in memory of James Danny Wilson or Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC27609. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 AM at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh.Entombment with Masonic Rites will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh.
