Charles William Wiggs

October 24, 1926 — March 21, 2015

Charles William Wiggs, 88 of Argyle, Texas  went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Denton, Texas.  Mr. Wiggs was born in Smithfield, North Carolina on October 24, 1926 to James and Bridgette Williams Wiggs. His college education was interrupted when he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII and he was later recalled to serve during the Korean War but he completed his undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University after the Lord called him to missions.  With a graduate degree in hospital administration he and his wife were appointed by the Foreign Mission Board (now the International Mission Board) to serve at the Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital in Pusan, South Korea.  He served in Korea for 32 years and later after retirement went to Albania to serve 2 years as business manager for a mission team there.  Following a second retirement he served in many capacities at Temple Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bonnie Johnson Wiggs and his three daughters and 8 grandchildren.  Deborah Simmons and her husband, John Mark of Henderson, NV; Toni Sidler and her husband, Jason of Argyle, TX; and Lisa Odell and her husband, Bill of Thousand Oaks, CA.  Grandchildren:  Brooke Simmons Runion,  her husband, Cody, and Davis Simmons of Shawnee, OK, Reese Simmons, Henderson,NV;  Elizabeth, Kristen and Jonathan Sidler, Argyle, TX;  Charlotte (Charlie) and Andy Odell, Thousand Oaks, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Hortense Wilkins  and brother, Billy Wiggs of Smithfield, NC; brother  James Wiggs of Morecombe, England and brother Frank and his wife Audrey Wiggs of Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh NC from 6-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Temple Baptist Church at Wake Forest and Clifton Streets in Raleigh at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 with Dr. David Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakland Heights Cemetery in Smithfield, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the International Mission Board, Box 6767, Richmond, VA 23230, or to a mission of your choice.
