We are sad to formally announce the death of our beloved, Carmen, on Monday, May 08, 2023 due to
cardiac complications.
Carmen filled so many roles to all of us, but the most important role to her was being a mother to Chloe.
Carmen was a loving, dedicated, and supportive mother to Chloe.
Carmen was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Houston. She is survived by her daughter, Chloe
Carroll; brother, Lynn and his wife, Vanessa Lambert. Carmen is Aunt to Brent Lambert, his wife Marya
and their children Holden and Sophia; Kurrissa Lambert and her children Chandler, Caleb, Corry, and
Christopher; LaShonda Tapley and her children Luna and Caspian. Carmen’s youngest nephew is Austin
Lambert.
Carmen also leaves behind her uncles: Michael Houston and his wife Gail; Marc Houston and his wife
Kim; and her Aunt Lisa Houston. Carmen has numerous cousins and many close family members that all
mourn her passing.
It is important to recognize that Carmen maintained deep friendships with her Concord High School
classmates, her ASU alumni, and her colleagues at WCHHS, and the others she met on her path. These
friendships were part of Carmen’s family and deep and dear to her. Truly deep connections that are not
taken lightly by Carmen’s family left behind.
Carmen exemplified “Team Spirit” at Concord High School and was part of the class of 1986. Carmen
earned an Athletic Scholarship to Appalachian State University and could not have been a more devoted
Mountaineer. Her dearest Alumni friends will attest to “CC” ASU loyalty representation.
At Appalachian State University Carmen was class of 1990 and earned a BS, Sociology/Corrections.
Carmen devoted her life to social work and to the service of others in so many ways through her career.
She absolutely was an advocate and was dedicated to seeing that the needs of her clients were met.
Carmen’s entire career was with Wake County Government, and she loved her work but really built
special relationships with her colleagues. They were close and enjoyed the accomplishments of their
professional relationships. Carmen retired from Wake County Health and Human Services in 2018.
She also worked with York Technical College in Test Proctoring thru 2020. Carmen volunteered on so
many projects and spent her free time working with Grandma’s Estate Services in Raleigh. She was very
passionate about the program of a Non-Profit Organization Dress For Success Triangle NC.
Carmen was so talented with sewing, crafting and DIY projects.
Carmen’s love and devotion to her very best fur baby, Knuddel is second to none! Knuddel has been
adopted by a dear friend and Knuddel is receiving the best of care and he is not lacking for any attention.
This was a request of adoption out of love that would not be denied.
A memorial service will be held for Carmen on September 9, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home
in Raleigh, NC.
Carmen will be missed and we should rejoice that we had the blessing of her light and her love.
Continue to keep each of us in your prayers for peace and comfort and to bless others as we have been
blessed.
