Anton Gene Tony Whitaker

GARNER- Anton Gene Tony Whitaker, 62, of Garner, died Saturday at Wake Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Edgar C. Whitaker, Sr., mother Margaret Rogers Whitaker, sister Nancy W. Currin and brother Edgar Clayton Whitaker, Jr. Tony was a 20+ year veteran of the Garner Volunteer Fire Department and 30+ year employee of Dr. B. C. Raynor. Tony enjoyed photography, particularly drag racing, classic cars and motorcycles.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.Surviving are brothers; Kenneth Mike Whitaker and wife, Shirley of Wendell and Jimmy C. Whitaker of Garner; god-son Christopher Ryan Whitaker of Wendell; 3 nieces and 3 nephews; eight great nieces and nephews.Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner and at other times at the home of Jimmy Whitaker.
