Clayton E. Jenkins, age 94, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Treva Payne Jenkins; parents James Marion and Lucy White Jenkins; and, brothers and sisters: Cora Marie, Aileen, J.B., Howard, David, Jasper, Gilmon, and Grady. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. Wenning, son-in-law, James O. Wenning, Jr., and three grandsons: Jared Keith Simmons, Tyler Forrest Simmons, and Alec James Wenning. Additionally, he is survived by many loving nephews and nieces.
Clayton was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church for many years. He retired from Ralston Purina Company/Cargill after serving in both the Nashville and Raleigh areas as the traffic manager. Clayton served in the US Army in World War II with Company D, 729th Military Police Battalion. He was drafted on April 1, 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater until January 1946. He was honored to have the opportunity to serve his country.
On Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 11 a.m., the family will receive friends at a visitation and reception with Funeral Service to follow at 12 p.m., both at St. James United Methodist Church, 3808 St. James Church Rd, Raleigh NC 27604. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC. A very special thank you to Dr. Steven Liebowitz for his years of dedicated care and kindness. We thank the wonderful staff of Trinity Grove of Wilmington, NC for their love and support over the past months. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. James United Methodist Church.
