Sue Ogburn, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29, at Carillon Assisted Living of Fuquay-Varina.  A native of Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Marion Benton and Julia Langdon Pleasant.

She graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College in 1937, where she played on the Women’s Basketball Team.  She taught at Angier and North Harnett Elementary Schools and her love for children touched many lives.  After retirement, she was a successful Sales Manager with Tupperware and enjoyed traveling with her husband and family.

She was a faithful member of Angier United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, including Superintendent of Sunday School and Annual Conference Delegate. She was awarded the Special Mission Recognition Pin by the United Methodist Women for her years of dedication and service.

Her life was characterized by her Christian faith, devotion to her family, as well as her caring and generous spirit.  She exemplified grace and a tremendous gift of hospitality to family and friends.  Everyone who knew her was touched by her smile, her laughter, and her love.

She is survived by daughters, Lynda Ogburn of Angier, Peggy Christian and husband, James, of Lillington, Kay Hovey and husband, George, of Cornelius; sister, Doris P. Barnes of Southern Pines; grandchildren, Jennifer Christian of Lillington, Bryan Christian and wife, Tonya, of Winterville, George Hovey III of Raleigh, Carl Hovey of New York City; great-grandchildren, Justin Pretlow, Jadyn Pretlow, Emani Williams, Saige Christian, and Ella Christian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ira Ogburn; brothers, Williard, Joe, and M.B. Pleasant Jr; sisters, Gladys Langdon, Leola Lassiter, Christine Pleasant, Maxine Denning, and Rachel Peterson.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Angier United Methodist Church.  A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Angier United Methodist Church, 278 South Wilma Street, Angier, N.C.  27501

Sympathies to each of Mrs. Sue’s family members. She was such a stately and dignified lady …. in spirit as in person. She lived a remarkable life.
