Samuel Elijah Alexieff

Samuel Alexieff.jpg2

08/14/1999 ~ 10/28/2018

Samuel Elijah Alexieff, son, brother, friend, artist, skater, lacrosse and talented hockey player, died on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at his family home in Raleigh, NC. He was 19 years old and a student at Wake Technical Community College and working as an electrician apprentice with Morning Star Electric, LLC.
Born on August 14, 1999, at 7:08PM to Illya and Betsy Alexieff, Samuel was always known for his quick wit, love of word-play and notorious Sam-a-saurous Rex roar. By age 2, he was on ice skates. By age 10, he was skating rings around his opponents and winning imaginary Stanley Cups. By Age 13, he mastered the skateboard and was a regular at the skate park when he wasn’t scoring goals at the hockey rink.
Samuel brought happiness to everyone he met and always had a genuine love to share with all people. He was an engaging and social teenager, extremely athletic, and loved sports nearly as much as a good bag of Cheetos. He helped take his NC Force travel team to their first ever championship in his career. He had a big heart and loved his dog’s Bruiser, Speckles, Bear and girlfriend, Maria, whom he adored.
A sensitive young man with both passion and a contagious smile, Samuel was also subject to depression, which he wrestled with in the past year. His life was cut short by an alcohol-related incident. He is survived by his parents; his younger brother, William; his maternal grandmother, Carolyne Wallace of Winston-Salem NC and his paternal grandmother, Norma Jean Chelgren Alexieff of Newport NC.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh. All are welcome.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Campaign for America’s Kids.

It was truly a pleasure to coach and work with Sam. This news hurt my heart so badly because I know how good of a kid he was. Words cannot explain how sorry I am. I will be in contact directly in the next few days. Stay strong and I pray that everything will be okay.

Sam was like a big brother to me when I first moved here in the second grade, I have so many amazing memories of spending time with all of you. It pains me to know that something like this happened to such a good person. I’ll never forget the impact he made on my life. Rest In Peace Sam

  8. Alisa Semerkina

Sam had a big heart and always wanted to understand and help other people, without asking anything in return. He was one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met and it hurts my heart knowing the things he went through and how it all ended. Thank you for all the good times, see you on the other side.

    Betsy, Illya,
I am so sorry. I know you were working so hard to help Sam build his life and that you were there for him always. His loss is unbearable and I am grieving deeply. A memory I can share, is of throwing a football around with Sam and Illya at the dog park. I could see that Sam was a natural athlete and even at 13, he threw the ball much better and further than I ever could. I thought that was great. I think he is at peace now and I think you will someday find him again.

  12. Desiree Sigler

May your family find comfort as “the hearer of prayer” embraces their heart (Psalms 94:19). Lean on one another for strength and encouragement to stay strong. We hope that the many cards, hugs, kind words, cherished memories, and loving prayers sustains your family during this most difficult time.

  13. Leta Williams

Thinking of you with sympathy and prayers. Sam was such a special person and will be fondly remembered. May your faith bring peace.
