Marie R. Franks

January 15, 1932 ~ March 31, 2020

Marie R Franks, 88 of Garner NC, died March 31, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 15,1932 in Raleigh NC, the daughter of Glenn and Durema Russell. She was the youngest of 2 children. She married Carl Franks Sr. who preceded her in death on April 22, 2014.

After attending Duke University, she started her career as a teller for Wachovia Bank and retired as Assistant Vice President with over 30 years of dedicated service. During this time, she was a friend to many co-workers and customers. It is there that she met her husband Carl and they were married September 3, 1954 and moved to Garner. They were married almost 60 years before his death. She attended First Baptist church in Garner where she served in numerous rolls.

Marie was involved in numerous clubs in Garner. The Garner Woman’s Club, The Alice Broughton book club and the Forest Hills Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player and played in many bridge clubs along with her husband over the years. Marie loved to read and work in her yard. She also loved learning new crafts to make or knit. In her spare time, she would visit friends who were sick or in nursing homes. She always tried to give back to others in some small way.

Of her accomplishments Marie would tell you her greatest were her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful mom, grandmommy, and nana. She was extremely proud of them and loved to tell others about what they were doing. She was a Godly woman and mother who taught many life lessons about faith, loving her family, loving others, serving and working hard.

She is survived by her son, Carl Franks Jr of Tampa Fl; her daughter, Connie Franks Hawley of Garner NC; Grandchildren Brittany Franks of Queens NY; Courtney Franks and Carly Moore of Tampa Fl; Matthew Hawley, Hannah Hawley and Mikayla Hawley of Garner NC; Sister in law Joyce Russell of Leland NC; and several nieces and nephew. Marie was also preceded in death by her brother Glenn Russell and an infant child.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers she has had over the years after her stroke & Transitions Life Care for the excellent care they provided the last year.

If you wish to make any contributions in honor of her life, please give to Community of Hope Carpenters Hands ministry, P.O. Box 1004, Garner NC, 27529; or Transitions LifeCare, Philanthropy Dept. 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC, 27607.
