Leesa Caroline Anderson

08/19/1987 ~ 10/02/2017

Leesa Caroline Anderson, 30, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away on October 2nd, 2017 due to cancer. She was born on August 19th, 1987 in Statesville, North Carolina, daughter of David and Becky (Shumate) Anderson. She attended Parkside High School, of Salisbury, Maryland, and graduated from Lake Norman High School, of Mooresville, North Carolina, where she was a member of the women’s soccer team. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Western Carolina University in 2009.

Leesa has taught Health and Physical Education at Flat Rock Middle School, Brevard High School, and Rosman Middle and High School while also serving as a coach in golf, soccer, basketball, and softball throughout her career. She had a special place in her heart for the Adaptive Physical Education program.

Leesa had a love for the mountains, photography, waterfalls, and creative home decor. Her outgoing personality always provided wit and humor when needed. The compassion, loyalty,  and sass found in all her relationships will surely be missed.

Leesa is survived by her parents David and Becky Anderson of Smithfield, North Carolina; sister Kasey Anderson; brother Kyle Anderson; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her dog Ace. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Henry and Vertie Anderson of Roaring River, North Carolina and maternal grandparents Council and Mae Shumate of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, Brevard, North Carolina. Visitation will be Friday, October 6th, from 1-3pm at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home and Chapel, a service to follow directly after. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to a memorial fund at Rosman Middle and High School, located at 2770 Old Rosman Hwy, Rosman, NC, 28772,  to cover individual student needs that arise throughout the year — a service in which Leesa often found enjoyment. Electronic contributions may be made online by visiting https://myevent.com/leesaslegacy.

Guestbook

  1. Sarah Phelps Sellers

Dear Andersons, my heart is breaking for you. I still remember my birthday one year when Leesa came to school with a BUNCH of chicken McNuggets to help us celebrate. I knew then that Leesa was just like her family: sweet spirited, caring, and loving. I am lifting up prayers for peace for all of you.

  2. The Berryman-Maciels

Dear Andersons—Our family holds yours in our hearts. So saddened by your loss of Leesa.
I read this poem and wanted to share….
*We cannot judge a song by it’s duration, nor by the number of it’s notes
We must judge it by the way it touches and lifts our souls.
Sometimes, those unfinished are among the most beautiful!
And when something has enriched your life,
And when it’s melody lingers in your heart,
    Is it unfinished?
    Or is it endless?

Please feel the comfort of the love so many have for her.

  3. Debbie vickers-watts & Keith Watts

We have kept you in prayer since this journey began with Leesa. Nina would keep me updated. Leesa is peaceful now and I hope that you can find some peace in knowing others care and are praying for you.

  4. Kimber Ward

Thank you for raising such a beautiful soul as Miss Leesa Anderson. I am so deeply sorry for your loss, but also so deeply honored to have known someone as kind, wonderful & funny as Leesa. Please know that Leesa’s friends will continue to pay forward the kind of kindness that her soul was comprised of, so in her honor these acts will ensure that her very spirit lives on to spread joy in every person it touches.

    Crissy Cole

  7. Brenda Minton

Becky, David and family: May God wrap you in his loving arms as you walk through adjusting to life without Leesa. Losing a loved one is difficult, but God is bigger than our grief. Prayers for you during this time.
