Larry Clifton Fountain

January 6, 1946 ~ November 23, 2020

Larry Clifton Fountain, 74, died peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2020 after a long and brave battle with dementia. He will be forever remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
A native of Duplin County, NC, Larry was one of four children born on January 6, 1946 to the late Murphy C. and Mary E. Kennedy Fountain of Fountain, NC. Larry grew up in Faison, NC and graduated from North Duplin High School. He then served in the U. S. Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran in a Transportation Unit in Phan Rang near Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1971, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal as well as a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service to his country of which he was very proud.
Larry was known as a dedicated and hard worker who supported his family by being a truck driver traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast and from the North to the South. During the latter part of his work career, Larry worked for and retired from Johnston County Sanitation and Environmental.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Laura Fountain Turner; grandson, Justin Turner and granddaughter Brittany Turner; older sister, Elizabeth Fountain Doyle and younger brother, Murphy C. Fountain, II as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his sister Linda Fountain Palmer and his niece Amanda Palmer.
He loved his family and will be greatly missed; he was a compassionate and caring father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor, was a great story teller and frequently told many tales about his many experiences as he traveled the roads and highways of this country.
There will be no formal service at this time, but a celebration of his life will be arranged at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
