Gregory Eugene “Greg” Ziles

09/11/1953 ~ 01/09/2019

HOLLY SPRINGS – Gregory Eugene Ziles, 65, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

Funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Greg was raised in Geneseo, Illinois. He graduated from J.D. Darnell High School with a perfect ACT score and was a National Merit Scholar and later attended Blackhawk College in Moline, Illinois. Greg honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, deploying to Germany during his service (and loved it!).

Following his military service, Greg returned to Geneseo and began a respectable career with the Geneseo Telephone Company, from which he later transferred to Nortel and was currently employed with Ribbon Telecommunications as a Senior Engineer.

Greg enjoyed many pastimes such as fishing, golfing, traveling, and road trips to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. However his favorite pastime was his family. Greg liked to socialize and could regularly be found enjoying the company of his family and friends. He also enjoyed yardwork and simply experiencing nature.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Ziles; father, Gene Ziles; and a brother, John Ziles.

Greg is survived by his wife of 37 years, Noell Ziles; daughters, Lindsey Goldberg and husband, Josh of Raleigh, Elizabeth Riley of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Brett Gripp and wife, Jane of Rock Island, Illinois; grandchildren, Mya, Levi, Jarrett, Jamie, Jeff, Jay; canine companions, Maggie and Bella; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition, Greg fondly loved his late brother’s family, which includes Greg’s sister-in-law, LuAnn; nephew, Adam; and nieces, Abbie and Angela.

Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Online condolences may be made at www.bryan-leefuneralhome.com.

Greg was my “thorn” in grade school…if I got a 95, he got a 96! Once in awhile, I got him….but not too often, which just made me try harder…thanks Greg! If your dad told you how well be did in school, every word was true. May you be lucky & have a Greg Ziles to challenge you….
