Jean C. Mattivi, 88, originally from Kersey, PA, left us peacefully to be with Jesus while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 15, 1932 and married the love of her life, Irvin C. Mattivi on June 20, 1953. She worked in banking and enjoyed waitressing because she loved people. Jean was a charter member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Pat Best, Cathy Hart, Bonnie Jackson and Jeannin Gray; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Schatz; many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mattivi will lie in repose at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh for those who wish to view and pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, North Carolina 27615.

I very much enjoyed working along side of Mrs Jean for so many years. She taught me so many things about working with people and she shared many stories of waitressing in her past at sams bottle shop. I am grateful for her visit just days before her passing. What a great wife, and mother she must have been for her family. I will never forget this woman.

    Rest in peace Mrs. Jean

  9. Phyllis Bryant

I extend my deepest sympathies to Jeans family. She touched our lives as a server at both Gateway and Watkins during the time in our lives when I was in the process of being a living kidney donor to my best friend. She listened to us, heard our struggles, and on several occasions asked if it was okay to pray for us. Both of us are well and twenty years have passed. Her kindness was so extraordinary and her service top rate and her heart showed in how she welcomed us wherever we ate whether it was a struggle day for us or in the years since. I recall her fondly and her genuine empathy still warms my heart as a solid anchor during one of the most stressful times in our lives. May she rest well in the arms of our Lord. I know several angels that will be honored to welcome her to heaven, to eternal life. Jean, may your journey be swift.

  11. Kathy McClung

My prayers go out to the family and many of us who are “church” family. We will miss her sweet smile and glowing, loving heart. We hope she will look down on us when we can resume our Sunday brunches, and know that we are blessed to have known her.

  12. Patricia Guin

Jean Mattivi was an incredible lady. I knew her from our friendship through our parish of St Joseph’s. She was an inspiration to me of a beautiful, Catholic woman of faith. She was one of those people who went quietly about their lives, trusting in God, loving and taking care of their families, doing the right thing, even when difficult.
Jean was a source of strength for me when I lost my beloved husband suddenly, almost five years ago. I knew how very much she loved her dear Irvin, and we shed tears together as we talked about how to go on without our husbands. It always came down to faith with Jean. Faith that God had a plan for us both, and trust that it was good. Now His plan is for her to join Irvin in Paradise. How very happy and blessed she is!

Eternal rest grant unto Jean, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Jean, you will be greatly missed.

  13. Francine (Greenawalt) Cheatle

So very sorry to hear of the passing of this beautiful soul. I remember her and her husband so very fondly from their visits to Kersey, PA. You will all be in my prayers.

  14. Brittany MacAlester

What a beautiful example my grandmother was! She very much loved her children, grandchildren, extended family, fellow St. Joseph’s parishioners, neighbors, coworkers and her many friends.

Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received over the past week and a half. Thank you for the beautiful comments, cards, flowers, meals and phone calls.

    Much love and many thanks,
Brittany MacAlester (Jean’s granddaughter), on behalf of our entire family

  15. Lorraine Richardson

To the members of Jean’s family.

Jean almost always had a smile on her face. Irvin will be happy to welcome her to her heavenly home. I will miss her and so will our senior group.
