Delma “Dale” Best

March 11, 1942 ~ July 8, 2019

GARNER – Delma “Dale” Best passed away peacefully at her home on July 8, 2019 surrounded by her children after battling cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth Evans of Wayne County where she was born March 11, 1942 and lived until relocating with her husband to Raleigh 49 years ago.

She worked in the Wake County School System for several years. She was exceptional with numbers as evidenced by her remarkable ability to reconcile monies daily without error. This talent was acknowledged and recognized by her supervisor on many occasions as well as her work ethic and dependability to do a job and do it well.

During her marriage to her husband, Kenneth, she enjoyed playing cards, celebrating holidays with cookouts that included both family and friends. Later in life, she rediscovered her love for dancing and that became her new passion in which she would spend many weekends enjoying line dancing with her sisters and friends. She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh especially with her sisters. Many memories were shared with the sisters including shopping, celebrating of birthdays and family reunions. She loved life and laughter.

She most of all loved her husband, Kenneth, her son, Kenneth Jr., and wife Karen Best of Wake Forest, her daughter, Janice, and husband Harry Robertson of Garner and four grandchildren, Kyle Elliott, Kaili Best, Victoria Nevill and Paul Robertson and four great grandchildren, Owen Elliott, Jordan Robertson, Maribeth and Caroline Robertson.

She is survived by three sisters, Linda Holland of Virginia, Mae Williamson of Pikeville and Joyce Grice of Goldsboro and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10th from 10 to 10:45 am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home located on Highway 50 in Garner.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Dale will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 11 am by Pastor Mark Yates at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Clayton.

Our heartfelt gratitude to her caregiving family – Dr. Julia Rauch, UNC Health Care and the wonderful nurses who became her extended family through their loving care.

Also a special heartfelt appreciation to her sister, Mae Williamson, for her love, support and care of her during this journey. She unselfishly gave of herself not only to her but to her children as well.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County or to the American Cancer Society.
