Born on November 22, 1946 in Moore County, he was raised in the small Sandhill’s town of Ellerbe, NC and was the son of the late Elmo and Irene Haywood. He served in the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Greeley, Alaska for 2 years.  He was an active member for many years at the Angier Baptist Church and a Boy Scout Leader in the community.  He also served on the board at the Angier Recreation Club for over 15 years. He was an amateur photographer for family and friends and loved taking pictures of his grandchildren and family.
