08/21/1952 ~ 12/31/2017

GARNER- On December 31, 2017, Sharon Sienna Spores went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after an extended illness. Sharon resided in Johnson City for most of her life until she married Roy Lee Spores in 2003, and then moved to Garner, NC, in 2006 to be near family.  When Sharon and Roy moved to Garner, they were so devoted to Christ that their first priority was to locate their church home. Afterwards, it was time to establish a nearby residence.

Sharon was born in Johnson City, TN, in 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Spores Jr.; and her parents, Dayton James Phillips and Amanda Mays Phillips, who were life long residents of Johnson City.  Survivors include daughter, Anna Whaley, and grand‑daughter, Maya Barnes of Raleigh, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Troy Adams, and 3 grandchildren, Amilya, Grayson and Zayne Adams of Raleigh, NC;  a step-daughter and son‑in‑law, Lisa and Matt Herkstroeter, and 2 grandchildren, Alexis and Dylan Herkstroeter of Fairbanks, AK; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Roy Lee Spores III and Rebecca, and 3 grandchildren, Azyia, Roy Lee Spores IV, and Serenity, of El Paso, TX; a step-daughter, Elizabeth Bolton, and grandson, Zeke Bolton, of Fairbanks, AK; and several aunts and uncles.

Although Sharon was an only child, she had a large extended church family in both Tennessee and North Carolina. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC. Even though she was sick for several years, she was faithful in attendance, supported and loved her pastor, and cherished her church family.

Sharon was a dedicated wife and mother and will be missed. Her great love for the Lord was a source of strong encouragement to her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. She was a believer in the power of prayer and spoke many times daily with her heavenly Father. In one of Sharon’s last conversations with her daughter she smiled and said, “I’m going to heaven soon.” She had no doubts!

The graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 1:00 pm at the Happy Valley Memorial Park Chapel, Elizabethton, TN.  A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church following the morning service on Sunday, January 14, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Calvary Baptist Church in Garner, NC.

1:00 PM

Happy Valley Memorial Park
2708 Elizabethton Hwy. Johnson City, TN 37601

The service will take place at the Mausoleum Chapel in the Cemetery
