Elizabeth “Liddy” Anne Stoots was granted her angels wings the evening of February 16, 2010 at the age of 65. Liddy passed suddenly after a final battle with pneumonia as a complication of her struggle with a rare form of anemia. She passed quietly during a brief stay at Raleigh Duke Medical Center. She has been living in Raleigh since 1986.
Born in Lebanon, VA on May 17th, 1944, her parents were Marvin Winston Elswick and Bessie “Suzie” Johnson Elswick. She married Arnold W. Stoots, Jr. on April 4, 1964 in Lebanon, VA. Liddy and Arnold have a home in the Raleigh neighborhood of Brentwood, and are members of the New Hope Baptist church congregation.
Liddy is now with her late brother, Marvin Winston Elswick Jr. in the presence of God.
Surviving are her three children, Ronald Dean Stoots, Kecia Marie Stoots Petterson, and Krista Anne Stanton; 4 grandchildren, David Loflin, Jared Petterson, Ronnie Stanton, and William Stanton; and 4 siblings, Lexie Kegley, Lloyd Elswick, Jack Elswick, and Patsy Skorupa.
Liddy led a happy life serving God working in her church as an avid volunteer, as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished the times that she spent daily with her grandchildren. She was loving and giving; always willing to lend a hand to whomever she could. She enjoyed traveling and seeing God’s natural wonders.
Friends and families are welcome to join the family for a visitation at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd. Raleigh, on Saturday, February 20th from 6pm to 8pm.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 21st at 3pm at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Rd. Raleigh, NC 27604. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
